About
Kate Gerritsen has over 20 years experience working in arts management, public art commissioning and curating and has developed and implemented a diverse range of creative projects for corporate and government clients. Kate’s curatorial and project management experience have resulted in ambitious projects that reflect community values, strengthen cultural identity and use art to enhance public space.
Kate lives on Wadawurrung Country in Victoria, Australia, her curating and movement practices are both strongly focused on cultural values, community building and social justice. Kate was born in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and spent living and working on the traditional lands of the Ohlone people in San Francisco, CA before migrating to Australia.
Kate has held positions at the National Gallery of Victoria, Deutscher-Menzies and Regional Arts Victoria. She is the Director of Communications and Engagement at Regional Arts Victoria and teaches yoga at Federation University and for the community of Ballarat.
Kate holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Waikato Institute of Technology, Aotearoa (New Zealand) and a Masters in Cultural Heritage from Deakin University, Melbourne (Australia). Kate is also a registered community engagement practitioner and has completed the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) qualification. She is a registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Australia and Yoga Alliance.
Her writing has appeared in Untitled Magazine, Groundwork Magazine, UNESCO Observatory Multi-Disciplinary Research in the Arts Journal, ArtsHub and online forums.
